Botswana Motorsport, in collaboration with WORR Motorsport, officially launched the Karting Africa Academy on 30 May 2026 in Lobatse, Botswana. The milestone event attracted 40 participants, with the youngest aspiring karters aged just six years old racing on 2 stroke karts, a clear indication of the growing appetite for structured motorsport development among Botswana’s youth.
A centrepiece of the launch was the unveiling of the new Karting Africa Academy kart chassis, purpose built for the Academy program by WORR Motorsport. Botswana Motorsport was honored to become the first national sporting authority on the African continent to officially launch and introduce the chassis, a distinction that underscores the country’s ambition to lead continental motorsport development.
To deliver the event, Botswana Motorsport partnered with its affiliate, Cyro Motorsport Group and leisure Karting Company, The Freak Show Racing, ensuring a well coordinated and engaging experience for participants and spectators alike.
The launch received strong institutional recognition, with attendance from several distinguished guests including representatives from the Botswana National Sport Commission, the Mayor of Lobatse, the District Commissioner, the Member of Parliament for the constituency, and representatives of the Botswana Police Service. Their presence reflects broad governmental and civic support for the development of motorsport in Botswana.
The Karting Africa Academy represents a significant step forward in grassroots motorsport, creating a structured pathway for young drivers to access competitive karting and build towards future opportunities within the sport. This launch positions Botswana at the forefront of youth motorsport development across the region.
